Program Notes

Ray trace is inspired by a painting called “Twilight” by the American artist Norman Lewis. The piece explores Lewis’ forms of vibrant colour strokes against dark tones and lines, blurring together but yet distinct. I wanted to capture these movements between shades of colour from the painting and the movement of light during twilight; how light leaves traces or imprints of itself onto different surfaces, glimmering, and dissolving into shadow.
